One approach to design is to apply appropriate scale to the whole - meaning how to thoughtfully break down a mass to more adequately relate it to the human element. In the initial design phase - we make a conscious effort to break the mass into two parts - the upper and the lower. The roof and body. Public (living / entertainment areas) vs Private (Beds and baths). This decision allowed us to focus on the formal considerations of each element independently of one another. The conceptual basis pays respect to the prominence of the gable in western architectural language. We pushed the form to the extreme, creating an identifiable, distinct, and iconic silhouette. The upper volume is intended to be flexible in space and function. This ability for customization, variation and playfulness mirrors the characteristics as unique and identifiable as the canvas of a sail on a vessel in open water. Equal parts aesthetic and purpose, ‘SAIL’ offers the consumer a product that promotes versatility while leaving an imperishable impression on all who cross it.
We appreciate your interest in Sail and we will notify our mailing list when it's available. Thank you!
